Braces
Braces which are also known as dental braces, cases or orthodontic are devices used in orthodontics that straighten and align teeth as well as aiming to improve dental health. Braces are now very usual, especially among teens and kids.
History of braces
According to historians and scholars, the journey started in ancient times around 400 to 300 BC. Archaeologists have found numerous mummified ancient which appear to be metal bands covered around their teeth. In 1728, French dentist Pierre Fauchard, who is often credited with inventing modern orthodontics. Sometimes, when Fauchard in his practice used a device called “Bandeau”. In 1754, another french dentist Louis Bourdet followed Fauchard’s book. He perfected to work with “Bandeau” and was the first dentist who recommends the extraction of the premolar teeth to improve jaw growth.
In the mid-19th century, several important dentists helped to advance braces with special instruments and tools that allowed braces to be efficient. In the early 20th century, Edward Angle discovered the first simple classification system for malocclusions, like Class I, Class II, and so on. Edward’s classification system is still used nowadays as a path for dentists to describe how curved teeth are, which teeth are pointing, and how teeth fit together.
Braces in centuries
In the 1970s, Stainless steel becomes the metal, which was an improvement of dentists according to the flexibility. Hidden or lingual braces made their premiere in the decade and this is continuing in the 2000s. In the 21st century, self-adjusting braces became popular for eliminating the need for rubber bands or metal ties. It is more effective for dental health.
